Online tutoring is becoming an increasingly popular educational option.
FREMONT, CA: It is common for online tutoring to be viewed as a necessary expense in the 21st century. In order to get their children into elite colleges and universities, many parents pay for private tutoring. Online Tutoring has been shown to deliver highly effective results when done right. It has been proven that student' grades and scores are significantly improved when they have a small student to tutor ratio in targeted subjects.
Tutoring is also no longer exclusively the domain of the elite. As online learning becomes the norm, not the exception, during Covid-19, this is especially true. It is common for online tutoring and education options to be more affordable than in-person courses.
What make for a good online tutor?
Expertise: Having a good understanding of the most common misconceptions and weak areas of a student, knowing how to identify what's holding them back, and knowing how to address them is what online tutor with expertise do.
Collaboration: Tutoring works best when tutor helps solving problems, this creates active learning environment.
Engagement: Tutors will be more effectual if they can detect student disengagement or poor self-efficacy. Low-effort replies, less communication with the instructor, or shows of frustration are all signs of disengagement. Tutors, who know how to re-engage pupils, are more likely to be effective.
Understanding: Tutors should have a strong grasp of how students’ progress over time. For example, making time for students to revisit earlier content is crucial, even if they appear to have "mastered" it once. Working on a topic for a set amount of time frequently leads to a false perception of long-term expertise.
Test Preparation and Enrichment: There is a prevalent misperception that tutoring is just for pupils who are struggling academically and high achievers don't require further guidance. For many people, this is actually false. The ability to move ahead and practice topics that are more difficult than what they are studying in class makes tutoring useful for students who is advanced in one or more academic disciplines.
